Prime Minister Ali Asadov met today with President of the Lao People's Democratic Republic Thongloun Sisoulith, who is on an official visit to Azerbaijan, the Cabinet of Ministers told APA.
During the meeting, it was emphasized that the Lao President's visit to Azerbaijan is of particular importance as the first high-level visit in the history of bilateral relations. It was noted that the meeting with President Ilham Aliyev and the joint statement adopted during the meeting between the presidents would give significant impetus to the development of Azerbaijan-Laos relations.
The importance of the Lao President's participation in the Summit of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA) was also highlighted.
Information was provided on the work carried out during Azerbaijan's chairmanship of CICA for 2024–2026 in the areas of institutional development, the establishment of new cooperation platforms, and the promotion of practical initiatives.
The meeting also discussed prospects for developing bilateral cooperation in trade and economy, transport and logistics, energy, humanitarian affairs, demining, and other areas.
