The Congress of the Republic of Peru has adopted another statement on the 32nd anniversary of the Khojaly genocide, the embassy told APA.
The document said that 32 years had passed since the act of genocide committed by the Armenian armed forces against the Azerbaijani civilians, noting that a total of 613 people, including 106 women, 63 children, and 70 elderly were murdered, 1,275 were taken hostage, with the fate of 150 people remaining unknown.
The document stressed that the act of genocide was fully documented by numerous international human rights organizations, and was labelled by Human Rights Watch as "the bloodiest killing committed during the conflict".
The statement also referred to a document issued by the Peruvian Congress in 2013 that demands justice for the victims of the Khojaly genocide.
The document also mentioned that all the world Azerbaijanis pay tribute to the innocent Azerbaijani civilians killed in the city of Khojaly, expressing deep condolences to the Azerbaijani government and people on the occasion of the 32nd anniversary of the Khojaly tragedy.
It also expressed support for Azerbaijan’s peace efforts, the ongoing restoration and demining processes in the Azerbaijani liberated territories to ensure safe and dignified return of thousands of internally displaced persons to their ancestral lands.
The document, in particular, called on the international community to support countries like Azerbaijan, which face the problem of mines, in eliminating this serious threat and protect the lives of innocent people.
The Peruvian Congress also adopted a statement on the anniversary of the Khojaly genocide in 2023.
