Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan, who visited the Tavush region yesterday, told residents about the processes of delimitation and demarcation that will take place in this territory bordering Azerbaijan, APA reports citing “Past”.
The Prime Minister held a meeting with residents in the village of Eskipara (Voskepar), as well as with residents in Baganis, and then visited the village of Kirants (Güney). This was reported by the press service of the head of government.
Nikol Pashinyan touched upon the process of delimiting the border between Armenia and Azerbaijan.
The Prime Minister noted that the process of delimitation and demarcation between Armenia and Azerbaijan is entering the practical stage.
“What practical question have I come to discuss with you? The point is that the process of delimitation and demarcation between Armenia and Azerbaijan is entering a practical stage. What does demarcation mean in general and specifically in the case of the Republic of Armenia? This means going and finding the place where the Republic of Armenia begins. We all know, you know better than me, where it begins and where it ends.”
The Prime Minister showed those present a map with the outlines of Armenia and noted that this is the Republic of Armenia: “The process of delimitation and demarcation is as follows: the delimitation commissions must go and determine where the Republic of Armenia begins, and this must become the state border between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan. Why are we talking about this and why did we come to discuss this issue in Esquipara? Because there are issues that we must discuss. The point is that we see that we can start a real process of delimitation and demarcation from this part: from Baganis to Berkaber.”
He said that demarcation is about determining the coordinates of the border on a map, while delimitation is about carrying out this process on the ground. He said that it is necessary to determine where the borders of Armenia begin and end:
“It is important for us to strengthen the territorial integrity of Armenia. Our problem today with several countries in the region is that we want them to recognize the territorial integrity of Armenia by the agreement. I'm here to say that this is the only way to build our future."
He said that at present there is no agreement, no solution.
Pashinyan noted that if Armenia wants to legitimately demand what belongs to it, then it must legitimately give up what does not belong to it.
According to him, Azerbaijan first all raised the issue of 4 villages that are not enclaves. At the moment we are talking about 4 non-enclave villages.
Pashinyan emphasized that Armenia should not allow war: “Our policy is to prevent war. This was also the reason for us to determine where the Armenian border lies in this area. And we are doing this not only for Armenia but also specifically for the villages of Voskepar (Eskipara) and Kirants (Güney), to ensure the safety of these villages.”
Then the Prime Minister answered numerous questions from residents about delimitation and demarcation, infrastructure, possible problems, and ways to solve them.
An agreement was reached for representatives of the settlements of Voskepar (Eskipara) and Kirants (Gyugey) to regularly meet with members of the commission on delimitation and border security, exchange information about the process, and discuss current issues.
