Pakistan is actively striving for regional peace and the development of sustainable economic relations, said Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani, Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan at the 15th plenary session of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly held in Baku under the chairmanship of Azerbaijan, APA reports.
The Chairman of the Senate of Pakistan said that inter-parliamentary cooperation plays an important role in sharing experiences in the fight against terrorism, tackling climate change, and other areas: "The Asian Parliamentary Assembly creates conditions for the formation of a platform between countries. New structures should be created within the framework of the Asian Parliamentary Assembly so that we will ensure cooperation in the legislative field and bring states closer. Multilateral development is important for a stronger Asia."
Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani noted that they support Oman's full membership in the Asian Parliamentary Assembly and Belarus' observer status: "I would also like to congratulate Bahrain and Iran. They want to chair the Asian Parliamentary Assembly in the coming years. We should once again determine the sequence of chairmanships."
