The activities of Azerbaijani and Turkish think tanks are of great importance, and cooperation in this area continues, Chairman of the Center for Analysis of International Relations and Multiculturalism Farid Shafiyev said during his speech at the panel session titled “Turkic World Dialogues: Common Future, Common Vision” held in Baku, APA reports.
Emphasizing the importance of jointly combating disinformation, Farid Shafiyev said that Türkiye, Azerbaijan, and the countries of Central Asia are seeking to strengthen their independence.
He said that Azerbaijan-Türkiye military cooperation also serves as an example for other states.
Farid Shafiyev noted that organized disinformation campaigns on various issues are being conducted against Azerbaijan-Türkiye unity.
“I would also like to mention the developments taking place in the Middle East. For example, regarding the issue of Israel, organized disinformation is being conducted against the brotherhood of Azerbaijan and Türkiye,” he said.
Farid Shafiyev also recalled an incident that took place 12 years ago at the European Union’s Eastern Partnership summit. He said that at that event, the Armenian president made accusations against Türkiye, and President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev responded to them.
Farid Shafiyev recalled President Ilham Aliyev’s statement at the time: “Türkiye is not here, but I am.” He added that Azerbaijan takes Türkiye’s interests into account in Middle East issues.
He noted that Azerbaijan played a role in preventing an initiative regarding the so-called “Armenian genocide” in the Israeli parliament.
“At the same time, we are also making mediation efforts and are ready to continue these efforts,” he emphasized.
The chairman also touched upon the aircraft crisis between Türkiye and Russia in 2015. He noted that Azerbaijan played a mediating role during that period in order to help resolve the issue.
“When we undertake any mediation mission in the Middle East, we take Türkiye’s interests into account. This has been the case and will continue to be so,” Farid Shafiyev added.
