Next round of Azerbaijan-Latvia strategic dialogue held

The next meeting of the strategic dialogue between the Ministries of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the Republic of Latvia was held in Riga on June 18, the Foreign Ministry told APA.

The Azerbaijani delegation was led by Deputy Foreign Minister Fariz Rzayev, while the Latvian delegation was headed by Deputy State Secretary and Political Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ivars Lasis.

During the meeting, the sides held extensive discussions on the current state of political relations between Azerbaijan and Latvia and emphasized the contribution of mutual visits at various levels, as well as regular contacts, to the development of bilateral ties.

Within the framework of the dialogue, opportunities for expanding cooperation in trade and economy, humanitarian affairs, science, and education were reviewed. The parties also assessed future prospects for cooperation in the context of strategic energy and transport projects implemented at Azerbaijan’s initiative and with its participation.

In addition, attention was focused on expanding the legal and contractual framework, continuing cooperation within international organizations, and providing mutual support for candidacies.

The sides exchanged views on the current situation in the region, the Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization process, as well as large-scale restoration and reconstruction efforts in the territories liberated from occupation and measures being taken to eliminate the mine threat. Other regional and international issues of mutual interest were also discussed.

As part of the visit, Deputy Minister Fariz Rzayev also held working meetings with other Latvian officials and participated in roundtable discussions at a research center.
