As part of the 7th ADA Political Forum, a new panel discussion titled Geopolitical Shifts and Their Impact on Regional Sovereignty was held at Karabakh University, APA reports.

The session featured a range of high-level speakers. Chairman of the Board of the Center for the Analysis of International Relations (AIR Center), Farid Shafiyev, stated that during the occupation of Karabakh, some politicians from the US, Canada, and the Czech Republic repeatedly suggested that Azerbaijan should "come to terms with the reality": “Today, individuals responsible for crimes against Azerbaijan and its citizens are being prosecuted in accordance with our national laws. However, international reactions have been mixed. Former leaders of the military corps in Karabakh are being tried for crimes against humanity and other offenses, yet there are still calls for their release. Even the BBC produced a special report on Ruben Vardanyan. Such appeals are unacceptable.”

Cagri Erhan, Chief Advisor to the President of Türkiye, emphasized that the long-term occupation of Karabakh had caused instability in the South Caucasus, but the situation has since shifted in Azerbaijan’s favor: “Karabakh is a center of culture, industry, and tourism for Azerbaijan. Currently, there are various political and economic power centers around the world. The long occupation of Karabakh caused instability in the South Caucasus region. Today, Azerbaijan is a strong state that has restored its territorial integrity. Türkiye has always supported Azerbaijan’s position in this regard. Türkiye supports strengthening peace and stability in the region. Indeed, the liberation of Karabakh will not only contribute to Azerbaijan but also to the overall development of the South Caucasus. One of the important regional cooperation platforms currently is the '3+3' format, which is well known to all of you.”

He underlined that Azerbaijan is now a country conducting a sovereign and interest-based policy in the South Caucasus.

Urs Unkauf, Head of the German Federal Association for Economic Development and Foreign Trade, once again highlighted Azerbaijan’s hosting of the COP29 summit: “Hosting COP29 in Azerbaijan last November demonstrates your country's significant commitment to climate issues. There are significant ties between the Federal Republic of Germany and Azerbaijan. We are interested in further developing these relations. My country has substantial potential in both artificial intelligence and digitalization. Today, almost all countries face global changes. However, despite this, we remain optimistic about the future. I believe that the conference held in Khankendi will enable the creation of extensive cooperation bridges between the participating countries.”

The panel concluded with a Q&A session.
