Iran sends note to Azerbaijan

Baku. Konul Jafarli – APA. Iran has sent a note to Azerbaijan protesting against the conference on the theme “The future of contemporary South Azerbaijan” organized in Baku on March 30 by the South Azerbaijan National Freedom Front.


APA reports quoting Radioferda that on March 31, Azerbaijan’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Tehran Javanshir Akhundov was summoned to Iran’s Foreign Ministry. Deputy Foreign Minister of Iran Abbas Aragchi handed a letter of protest to Azerbaijan’s ambassador. The letter says that views against Iran’s territorial integrity and Tehran authorities were expressed at the event. It was noted that the Azerbaijani state did not take necessary measures to prevent the event.


Abbas Iragchi said such activities may undermine positive and developing relations between the two countries. “Threatening, false reports were sounded against Iran at the event. This serves only the interests of Zionists. Such a conference can not be justified.”

 

Azerbaijani parliamentarians, public figures, party representatives, experts, members of the organizations on South Azerbaijan, representatives of the organizations on the rights of south Azerbaijanis abroad attended the conference.


Head of the Caucasus International Strategic Studies Center Araz Aslanli made a speech on the theme “Iran in crisis”, professor Nasib Nasibli “South Azerbaijan – prospects of national struggle”, acting director of Geography Institute of Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences Ramiz Mammadov “Problems of Lake Urmia”. Political analyst Vafa Guluzadeh, professor of Baku State University Shirmammad Huseynov, chairman of the United Azerbaijan Popular Front Party, MP Gudrat Hasanguliyev, chairperson of United Azerbaijan Movement Yasemen Garagoyunlu and others expressed their views on the theme.
