Azerbaijan consistently supports the promotion of dialogue, multilateral cooperation, and stronger partnership among developing countries, said Azerbaijan’s Presidential Representative on Climate Issues Mukhtar Babayev at the opening ceremony of the first General Assembly of the Global South NGO Platform held within the framework of the Baku Urban Week, APA reports.
He stated that today’s meeting is not only an institutional milestone, but also a continuation of the spirit of solidarity, dialogue, and cooperation formed in Azerbaijan.
According to Mukhtar Babayev, the establishment of the Global South NGO Platform in Baku is an indication of Azerbaijan’s continued commitment to strengthening South-South cooperation and forming inclusive international platforms for dialogue and practical action: “This platform is not just a space for dialogue, but also a force for action.”
Mukhtar Babayev recalled that during the meeting held with NGO and civil society representatives ahead of COP29 in 2024, it was emphasized that climate action cannot succeed without strong public participation, civic activism, and social responsibility.
The Presidential Representative noted that the active and constructive participation of NGO and civil society representatives also played an important role in the successful adoption of key decisions within the framework of COP29.
“We are living in a period when the negative impacts of climate change are increasingly affecting society,” he added.
