“Today, as the parliament of a victorious country, we are once again forced to devote time to the European Parliament, with which we have no ties or deep relations, against the background of another anti-Azerbaijan resolution dated April 30, said MP Bahruz Maharramov at today’s session of the Milli Majlis, APA reports.
The MP said that we do not have any political priority related to the European Parliament, which has long lost its influence even within its own jurisdiction: “This political swamp does not want to leave Azerbaijan alone. Of course, no matter how much we try to stay away, since this is another political provocation against our sovereignty, such dirty nests cannot be left unanswered. The baseless, fundamentally wrong and far from existing realities ‘collection of words’ dated April 30, 2026 of the European Parliament cannot be called a legal document in any way. Because in itself this ‘political blackmail’ has a nature that directly contradicts law, several fundamental principles of international law, and documents regulating interstate relations”.
MP Elshan Musayev proposed suspending all relations with the European Parliament and withdrawing Azerbaijan from the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly.
MP Zakir Shukurov noted that the European Parliament once again targeted Azerbaijan by adopting a resolution titled “Supporting democratic resilience in Armenia”: “The provisions against Azerbaijan in the resolution are completely baseless, fundamentally wrong and far from existing realities: “Instead of supporting normalization and peace efforts in the region in the post-conflict period, the European Parliament’s confrontational stance negatively affects the peace process in the region and Azerbaijan-European Union relations”.
Chairman of the Human Rights Committee of the Parliament Zahid Oruj said that when looking at dozens of resolutions of the European Parliament over the past 36 years regarding the Armenia–Azerbaijan conflict and the Karabakh issue, it is clearly seen how those who firmly defend the territorial integrity of Ukraine justified the occupation of our lands: “After our Victory in the Patriotic War in 2020, the European Parliament has turned into a tribune of defeated states and under the topic of monuments, return and protection of Christian heritage, which are not even voiced by the Yerevan authorities, they are intensifying their attacks against our country. The desire to revive former occupiers under the name of prisoners of war is clearly evident. We would not be surprised if they declare them political prisoners. In the European Parliament, they would demand acquittal for the Third Reich and those tried in Nuremberg. For the first time in the last 35 years, an AZAL plane went to Yerevan - under safe conditions, the deputy prime minister, on the instruction of the president, is agreeing on the border line within the framework of the peace process. At such a time, forces that become active against reconciliation and security are trying to take revenge for our Victory”.
Chairman of the Committee on International Relations and Interparliamentary Relations of the Milli Majlis Samad Seyidov noted that the European Parliament had also adopted a resolution against Azerbaijan in 2015 that did not fit into any framework: “The Azerbaijani Parliament had cut all relations with this body in 2016. However, Azerbaijan later took a constructive and humane step and restored relations. They were not asking, they were begging. They even presented an official document that they would not do such things again. Therefore, the Azerbaijani Parliament changed its decision and resumed cooperation. After that, 13 resolutions against Azerbaijan were adopted. Every success has been accompanied by a resolution against Azerbaijan in the European Parliament”.
