In the last 10 days, President Ilham Aliyev’s participation in consecutive summits across three different regions — Europe, the Turkic world, and the CIS space — is yet another confirmation of Azerbaijan’s growing influence on the international stage and its multi-vector foreign policy course, said Member of the Milli Majlis (Azerbaijani Parliament) Vugar Iskandarov in a statement to APA.

Azerbaijan’s independent and balanced foreign policy

According to the MP, the President’s participation in the 7th Summit of the European Political Community held in Copenhagen on October 1–2, followed by the 12th Summit of the Organization of Turkic States (OTS) held in Azerbaijan’s ancient city of Gabala on October 6–7, and finally the meeting of the CIS Heads of State Council held in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, on October 9–10, demonstrated that our country is an integral part of several political, cultural, and economic spaces at the same time: “Today, Azerbaijan acts as an important partner and reliable player within Europe, the Turkic world, and the CIS. President Ilham Aliyev’s diplomatic activity in three different directions — West, East, and North — over the past 10 days shows that Baku pursues a foreign policy that is independent, flexible, and based on national interests, not dependent on any single center.”

European Political Community Summit: Transition to a new phase

Vugar Iskandarov noted that the Copenhagen summit demonstrated that Azerbaijan’s political dialogue with Europe has entered a new phase: “At the summit, the discussions held by President Ilham Aliyev with the European Union and other partners were based on the principles of mutual respect and equal cooperation. "This shows that in its relations with Europe, Azerbaijan prioritizes a policy of mutual interest and dialogue, rather than pressure and diktat.”

Azerbaijan’s role in OTS and active diplomacy in CIS Region

The MP stated that the 12th Summit of the Organization of Turkic States held in Gabala was of special importance both culturally, historically, and strategically: “The choice of Gabala was not accidental. It was both a promotion of Azerbaijan’s ancient statehood traditions and a confirmation of our country’s important role as one of the centers of Turkic unity. At this Summit, President Ilham Aliyev put forward important initiatives that define the future development directions of the Turkic world. Participation in the CIS Heads of State Council meeting in Dushanbe showed that Azerbaijan continues its active diplomatic course in the post-Soviet space. This participation reflects Azerbaijan’s emphasis on regional stability, economic cooperation, and security issues. Azerbaijan consistently works within the CIS framework to maintain dialogue and mutual respect, strengthen economic ties, and establish peace in the region.”

Azerbaijan’s geopolitical weight

Vugar Iskandarov emphasized that President Ilham Aliyev’s participation in three important international platforms within these 10 days is not accidental: “This is a real example of Azerbaijan’s leadership diplomacy. Thanks to the active participation of our head of state, Azerbaijan is today recognized as a reliable partner both in the West, the Turkic world, and the post-Soviet space. This is the logical result of President Ilham Aliyev’s independent, nationally oriented, and balanced foreign policy. Azerbaijan’s geopolitical weight is now recognized not only regionally but also globally. This dynamic shows that under President Ilham Aliyev’s leadership, Azerbaijan is strengthening its position as an influential, reliable, and proactive state in the international relations system.”
