The memory of Azerbaijan's martyrs of January 20 was commemorated in the Russian capital, Moscow, APA's Moscow correspondent reports.

According to the report, an event dedicated to the 35th anniversary of the January 20, 1990 tragedy was held at the Azerbaijani embassy in the Russian Federation.

In his speech, Azerbaijani Ambassador Rahman Mustafayev recalled that 35 years have passed since the military aggression of Soviet army units against Azerbaijan on the night of January 19-20, 1990. He noted that January 20 is not only a bloody date in history, but also the beginning of the path leading to the restoration of Azerbaijan's independence.

Speaking at the event, Russian director and screenwriter Liliya Borovskaya said that there is little information about the January 20 tragedy in Russia. According to her, there is more information about Garabagh than about the January 20 tragedy in Russia. “It seems to me that January 20 was the logical conclusion of a dirty, politically sold history. I recently learned that the Azerbaijani public has sent a request to the Nobel Committee to deprive Mikhail Gorbachev of the Nobel Peace Prize. This step also demonstrates the self-respect and national pride of the Azerbaijani people.

I fully support this initiative of the Azerbaijani public. Many people in Russia approve of the initiative to deprive Gorbachev of the Nobel Prize. Those who approve and support this initiative in Russia call Gorbachev "Judas," the Russian director emphasized.

In the end, the commemorative feast was held for souls of the martyrs of January 20.
