Recent positive developments in the South Caucasus show that even intense conflicts can be transformed into peace, the United Nations High Representative for the Alliance of Civilizations Miguel Ángel Moratinos said during the opening ceremony of the 13th Global Baku Forum, APA reports.
“First of all, I would like to thank President Ilham Aliyev and his government for hosting us in Baku. It is a great honor for me to once again join the 13th Global Baku Forum. This forum is an invaluable platform for reflection, dialogue, and collective action during a time of global uncertainty,” the UN official emphasized.
He noted that the forum demonstrates that dialogue conducted through diplomatic channels remains the most powerful tool to reduce tensions and rebuild trust in various regions.
“When tensions rise, political leaders have always sought diplomatic and political solutions. The positive developments in the South Caucasus in recent years show that even tense conflicts can turn into peace. As Azerbaijan and Armenia move closer in the South Caucasus, it will be the young people who inherit this moment. Let us listen to the youth, support them and act together with them, because the story of peace is largely in their hands,” Moratinos said.
