Milli Majlis speaker meets with Lithuanian prime minister-UPDATED

Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met on April 9 with Prime Minister of Lithuania Inga Ruginienė, who is on an official visit to Azerbaijan, the Press and Public Relations Department of the Milli Majlis told APA.

The meeting included an exchange of views on the prospects for developing existing friendly relations and mutual cooperation between Azerbaijan and Lithuania. It was noted during the conversation that mutual visits at high and top levels, as well as political dialogue, play an important role in expanding cooperation. Speaking about cooperation in the humanitarian sphere, the Speaker stated that ties in education and culture play a significant role in deepening relations between the peoples. It was noted with satisfaction that a large number of Azerbaijani students are currently studying at higher education institutions in Lithuania and that mutual cultural events are being held.

The importance of interparliamentary cooperation between the two countries was also highlighted at the meeting. It was emphasized that mutual visits and the activities of interparliamentary working groups contribute to the development of dialogue between legislative bodies. The need to deepen cooperation between relevant committees of the parliaments was also discussed.

Prime Minister of Lithuania Inga Ruginienė stated that her country attaches great importance to developing relations with Azerbaijan, highlighting broad existing opportunities and stressing the importance of cooperation in the fields of economy, humanitarian affairs, defense, and security.

Noting that she is a member of the friendship group with Azerbaijan in the Lithuanian parliament, the guest emphasized the role of parliaments in the development of bilateral relations and underlined the importance of expanding the activities of working groups and promoting mutual visits.

After the meeting, the guests familiarized themselves with the plenary hall of the Milli Majlis and the Victory Corner established in the parliament’s foyer.

At the end, the guests took a commemorative photo.
