The Kremlin expressed serious concern over the violence in Syria, said Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov, APA’s Moscow correspondent reports.
"Violence is taking place there, and it cannot but deeply concern us. This concern is shared by many countries and international organizations, including the UN."
Peskov refused to comment on news about some Latakia residents being present at the Russian base, stating: "We do not comment on matters related to bases."
It should be noted that Dmitry Polyanski, First Deputy Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN, announced that Russia and the United States have submitted a request to the UN Security Council to hold closed consultations on the situation in Syria.
Peskov emphasized that such consultations should be held as soon as possible.
