Khojaly victims commemorated at Azerbaijan's Embassy in China -PHOTO

A commemorative event was held at the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the People's Republic of China on the 33rd anniversary of the Khojaly genocide, the Embassy of Azerbaijan in China told APA.

It was noted that the event was attended by representatives of diplomatic missions accredited in China, as well as members of scientific and public circles, and our citizens living in Beijing. First, as a sign of respect for the dear memory of the martyrs, a wreath was laid in front of the Khari Bulbul bas-relief in the courtyard of the Embassy, and the victims of Khojaly were commemorated with a minute of silence.

The Ambassador of Azerbaijan to China, Bunyad Huseynov, gave detailed information about the massacre committed in Khojaly, speaking about the atrocities committed by the armed forces of Armenia during the occupation of the city of Khojaly. The Ambassador stated that the Azerbaijani people were subjected to the policy of ethnic cleansing and genocide by Armenian nationalist-chauvinists several times in the 20th century. The Khojaly genocide is the result of this aggressive Armenian policy based on ethnic hatred. The Khojaly massacre is also part of Azerbaijan's struggle for independence. The Khojaly tragedy teaches us not to forget our history and to fight for justice. In recent years, we have commemorated the Khojaly tragedy with different feelings. Today, thanks to the leadership of the Victorious Supreme Commander-in-Chief, the esteemed President Ilham Aliyev, the courage of our Armed Forces, and the unity of our people, our lands have been liberated from occupation. Azerbaijan's territorial integrity and sovereignty have been fully restored. The words "refugee" and "displaced person" have been replaced by the expression "Great Return." The memory of the innocent people killed in Khojaly was commemorated for the first time in the city of Khojaly on February 26, 2024. As a result of the reconstruction work carried out by our state in the liberated territories, life is being revived in the Karabakh and East Zangezur economic regions. Within this framework, the land of Khojaly is turning into a paradise before the eyes of the whole world. Residential complexes are being built in the city, parks are being created, and the necessary infrastructure is being established. The implementation of the "Great Return" program for the resettlement of families in the regions liberated from the occupation of Armenia has begun.

Within the framework of the event, a photo exhibition featuring information published in the world press about the Khojaly tragedy was held, along with the screening of a video reflecting interviews with witnesses of the genocide, the raising of the state flag by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev, in the liberated city of Khojaly, and the reconstruction work carried out in the city.
