“Against the backdrop of global challenges, conflicts and military confrontations in our neighborhood, Azerbaijan, Türkiye and Georgia are demonstrating a position in two directions," Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov told APA at a joint press conference following the trilateral meeting of the foreign ministers of Türkiye, Azerbaijan and Georgia held in Istanbul.
The minister stated that, first, all three countries demonstrate respect for international law, prioritize international law, and take consistent steps within the framework of international organizations to stop those conflicts.
“At the same time, you can see enough examples of these countries contributing to mediation missions. There is a visible and an invisible side to this issue. Diplomacy is not just about messages and meetings delivered through public means. It is impossible to go into the details of every moment. Very responsible and serious steps are being taken in this direction, and you can believe that,” he said.
As the second direction, Jeyhun Bayramov noted that many countries are suffering from these conflicts: “Problems related to energy security and disruptions in supply chains were mentioned. This can bring the economies of some countries to the brink of collapse. Now look at what is happening against the backdrop of the exemplary cooperation between Azerbaijan, Türkiye and Georgia: the Russia-Ukraine war, and on the other hand, the escalation of conflict around Iran, while almost all air traffic between Europe and Asia is being regulated through a narrow corridor passing through the South Caucasus. This is the result of the fact that today there is stability and peace in this region with the participation of these three countries. Today, the implementation of energy projects has not been delayed by a single day thanks to the active participation of our countries. This contributes not only to the welfare of our countries and our people, but also to the energy security of numerous countries across a vast geography."
The minister recalled that Azerbaijan currently exports natural gas to 16 countries: “For those 16 countries, this means energy security. We have seen the same in the field of transport and transit over recent years."
