A commemoration ceremony on the 33rd anniversary of the Khojaly genocide was held in Istanbul, APA's Istanbul correspondent reports.
The ceremony, held at the Azerbaijan Friendship Park in the Baghjilar district, was attended by Azerbaijan's Consul General in Istanbul, Narmina Mustafayeva, Baghjilar Municipality President Yasin Yildiz, the head of the Türkiye-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Friendship Group of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, Shamil Ayrim, and Baghjilar residents.
Within the framework of the commemoration ceremony, the national anthems of both countries were played, and the Quran was recited in memory of the victims of the Khojaly genocide and the martyrs.
Speakers at the event, stating that the Khojaly genocide is one of the most shameful and dark chapters in world history, emphasized that this massacre will never be forgotten and stressed the importance of continuing the work to bring the perpetrators of the genocide to justice.
Azerbaijan's Consul General in Istanbul,Narmina Mustafayeva, noting that the memories of the victims of the Khojaly genocide live in the hearts, highlighted that Khojaly is no longer just a day of mourning, but also a symbol of resistance for the Azerbaijani people.
The head of the Türkiye-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Friendship Group of the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, Shamil Ayrim added that it is important to commemorate the memory of the victims of the Khojaly genocide. He also pointed out that, years after the Khojaly genocide, Azerbaijan, liberated its occupied lands and established justice through its own strength. According to Shamil Ayrim, it is extremely important that those responsible for the Khojaly genocide to face international punishment.
