Nigar Ramazanova, a representative of a member organization of the National NGO Forum of Azerbaijan, delivered a speech at a meeting held in Geneva as part of the 63rd session of the UN Human Rights Council, APA reports.
In her speech, she drew attention to the issues of mine contamination of Azerbaijani territories and the fate of missing persons.
According to her, massive mine contamination prevents hundreds of thousands of Azerbaijanis displaced from their homes from safely returning to their lands: “During the decades when our lands were under occupation, Armenia systematically mined Azerbaijani territories, creating a threat that persists to this day and costs the lives of civilians.”
Nigar Ramazanova emphasized that the fate of thousands of Azerbaijanis who went missing during the Karabakh war still remains unknown: “Unfortunately, Armenia refuses to transparently share with us the locations of these mass graves and other detailed information.”
She called on the UN Human Rights Council to urge Armenia to fulfill its international obligations, share all critical information, and respect the fundamental rights of the victims, as well as those of their family members.
“Raising these important humanitarian issues on the platform of the UN Human Rights Council is of particular significance to me as a resident of Karabakh,” Nigar Ramazanova added.
