Corridors should not undermine sovereignty and territorial integrity, said Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei in response to a question about his country's official position on the Zangezur corridor at today's briefing, APA reports.
He said that although the expansion of relations between the countries of the region is supported, this process should in no case undermine sovereignty and territorial integrity, or internationally recognized borders.
"Although we agree to support the expansion of exchanges and relations between the countries of the region, at the same time, we have always emphasized that the creation of these passages should not undermine sovereignty and territorial integrity, or internationally recognized borders, and should not cause changes in the geopolitics of the region. In some cases, the negotiations and positions of other countries in the Caucasus region may be misinterpreted. Our position in this regard is clear and we have stated it many times," Baghaei noted.
