The influential ONESXM organization, which is engaged in an uncompromising struggle for the liberation of the island of Saint Martin, which remains effectively under occupation after being divided between France and the Netherlands, has issued a statement expressing support for Azerbaijan, APA reports.

The organization firmly rejected the accusations made by three members of the French National Assembly targeting Azerbaijan and the Baku Initiative Group for supporting the decolonization process.

Supporters of the independence movement strongly criticized the French lawmakers for portraying the Azerbaijani President's remarks as "interference in France's internal affairs."

The statement emphasizes that colonialism and the right of peoples to self-determination cannot be regarded as France's internal affair. It notes that these issues are governed by international law, Article 1 of the UN Charter (the principle of equal rights and self-determination of peoples), and UN General Assembly Resolution 1514, adopted in 1960, which calls for the end of colonialism ("Declaration on the Granting of Independence to Colonial Countries and Peoples"). In this regard, the association considers the mission of the Baku Initiative Group, which amplifies the voices of peoples suffering under colonial rule, to be entirely legitimate, lawful, and commendable.

Recalling that territories such as New Caledonia and French Polynesia remain on the UN list of Non-Self-Governing Territories subject to decolonization, the ONESXM organization stressed that Paris' policy pursued under the label of "French citizenship" cannot conceal the reality of inequality and the deprivation of indigenous peoples of their fundamental rights. The organization called for the immediate organization of an official referendum in Saint Martin, allowing the people to vote "yes" or "no" on full independence.

The ONESXM Association's statement once again demonstrates that Paris' tactics of threats, pressure, and claims of "interference in internal affairs" cannot silence demands for decolonization. From the Caribbean to the Pacific, peoples struggling against French colonialism are using the international platform created by the Baku Initiative Group to bring their voices to a wider audience, coordinate their positions, and demonstrate global solidarity. The BIG has elevated this struggle beyond isolated local protests, making it one of the key issues on the international decolonization agenda. ONESXM's position sends a clear message to Paris: the era of colonialism must come to an end, and the right of peoples to freely choose their future and exercise self-determination must not be obstructed by political pressure, threats, or manipulation.
