ICMP Director General: One billion people worldwide are affected by displacement

One billion people worldwide are subjected to displacement processes, said Kathryne Bomberger, Director General of the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP), during her speech at the international conference titled “Uniting efforts and enhancing cooperation for addressing the issue of missing persons,” APA reports.

“Armed conflicts, global warming, floods, forest fires, and other factors contribute to the increase in the number of missing persons. The number of missing persons in Europe has exceeded 70,000. In Ukraine, this figure has surpassed 100,000. The number of missing persons in Syria is estimated to be over 200,000, and in both Mexico and Colombia, it is over 100,000,” Kathryne Bomberger noted.

The Director General of the International Commission on Missing Persons (ICMP) thanked Azerbaijan for hosting the conference on missing persons and emphasized the significant role this conference plays in conveying the importance of the issue to the world.
