Relations between Azerbaijan and Hungary are at the highest level in all areas, Professor Laszlo Vasa, Chief Advisor at Hungary’s Institute for Foreign Affairs and Trade told journalists in Budapest, APA reports.

Laszlo Vasa emphasized that the strong ties extend beyond just the economy — they also include culture, education, and science: “Since the beginning of the crisis in Ukraine and Europe’s decision to abandon Russian gas, Azerbaijan has become the number one alternative source for Hungary. At the same time, Hungary has a pipeline system to transport Azerbaijani gas to Central Europe.”

He also noted that there is a revolutionary idea to deliver Azerbaijan’s green energy to Central Europe, and that countries such as Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan, along with Azerbaijan and Georgia, have expressed interest in joining the project: “To make this possible, they plan to build a deep-sea cable system under the Caspian Sea.”

Laszlo Vasa also expressed pride in the work of Hungarian investors in Azerbaijan: “Our companies are participating in the Azerbaijani government’s reconstruction projects.”
