Former Turkish Ambassador to Azerbaijan Hulusi Kılıç made a statement regarding President Ilham Aliyev’s speech at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly, APA reports.
The diplomat emphasized that President Ilham Aliyev’s address at the 80th session of the UN General Assembly in New York stood out with its distinctiveness, depth, and richness.
He also noted that the messages delivered by Ilham Aliyev were not only important for Azerbaijan, but were also valuable words of wisdom from a great statesman that shed light on the future of humanity and could serve as useful guidance and advice for all.
“Yesterday, humanity listened to a kind of chronicle of how a statesman of world-class intellect resolved seemingly unsolvable problems with the mastery and sharpness of a grandmaster. From the UN’s highest podium, President Ilham Aliyev delivered a speech of profound substance, offering clear, logical solutions to national, global, and regional issues, and in doing so, he effectively gave humanity a true masterclass,” he said.
Kılıç stressed that the very first sentence of President Aliyev’s speech was highly important, meaningful, and directly on target.
“Previously, when I took the floor here, I spoke about Armenia’s occupation of our territories and the problems of our refugees and internally displaced persons. But now the conflict is over. We have created a new reality.” Quoting the Head of State, the former ambassador noted that alongside addressing those who turned a blind eye to Azerbaijan’s territories being occupied for 30 years, the President also delivered messages of hope to oppressed peoples and countries subjected to injustice, exploitation, and occupation.
Kılıç went on to say: “We did not surrender, we did not bow down, we stood tall, we managed to preserve our national pride and ended the unlawful occupation. We did not reconcile with injustice. Despite the indifference of international organizations—first and foremost the UN and OSCE—toward our most painful problem, we restored justice ourselves, and in this sense we became an example for all. Everyone who listened to or later learned about the President’s first sentence understood: Never submit to injustice, tyranny, or occupation—protect your rights!”
The Turkish diplomat stressed another important point, continuing:
“Our foreign policy is built on pragmatic traditions. We are a state that strives for peace and universal harmony both in our region and globally. Naturally, we also appreciate the role and efforts of other countries that contribute to this cause. For example: since the start of his second presidential term, U.S. President Donald Trump has taken steps for peace worldwide, while also contributing to the development of relations with our country—something Azerbaijan highly values. The agreements reached on August 8 this year in Washington, signed with Armenia under the direct witness of Mr. Trump, are historic documents of exceptional importance not only for the region but for the entire continent and world. Everyone will benefit from the TRIPP route, that is, the Zangezur Corridor, agreements on which have already been reached.
At this point, I would like to emphasize one fact in particular. When the President of beloved Azerbaijan—my President—brought up the issue of the Zangezur Corridor, some regional and non-regional states made statements opposing it. With his profound strategic intellect, patience, tactical moves, and outstanding statesmanship, President Ilham Aliyev resolved all these games without provoking serious confrontations. This fact alone proves what a genius, wise statesman beloved Azerbaijan and the entire Turkic world possesses. Today, there are unfortunately not many leaders in the world who are true ‘problem-solvers.’ Presidents Ilham Aliyev and Recep Tayyip Erdoğan of Azerbaijan and Turkey are indeed statesmen who render historic services to humanity, showing the right path. In this sense, our unity, our unbreakable ties to each other, our solidarity, and our political will, which is based on service to the people, are exemplary for all. President Ilham Aliyev always emphasizes that there are simply no two other states in the world as close to each other as Azerbaijan and Turkey.”
He also underlined that Azerbaijan is rapidly developing, with its economic indicators improving year after year, and noted that the country plays a very important role in Europe’s energy security amid today’s difficulties. “Europeans must properly appreciate the benefits Azerbaijan provides. You see, these things are not achieved by words alone. Azerbaijan has been under pressure for years because of its independent political course. Yet it has endured those pressures and never abandoned its path or policies. Some may think these are easy issues, but they are not at all. Behind these achievements stand immense effort, iron will, and remarkable skill,” he said.
The former ambassador also added that the Azerbaijani people, the Turkic world, and humanity at large recognize and appreciate President Ilham Aliyev’s qualities in every step he takes. Achievements such as COP29 and successes within the Non-Aligned Movement are not only beneficial to Azerbaijan, but to all.
Kılıç concluded by saying that the light of the “sun of peace” rising from the Caucasus is now guiding the world toward a clearer path.
“We are still at the beginning of the road. Very soon, when every country and nation along the Middle Corridor stretching from Asia to Europe starts benefiting from it, they will see and realize what a historic decision President Ilham Aliyev made and turned into reality. Without a doubt, just as today, in the future too the pragmatic world will be grateful to Azerbaijan and its Great Leader for bringing peace to the Caucasus and setting the peace agenda in this decisive period of history when a new world order is being established.”
