Hikmat Hajiyev: Azerbaijan will never allow its territory to be used against neighboring states

"The geopolitical situation in our region is extremely difficult. A war is underway between Iran, the United States, and Israel just 200 kilometers south of Baku. Meanwhile, the Russia-Ukraine war continues 200 kilometers to the north," Hikmat Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, said in an interview with Türkiye's Milliyet newspaper, APA reports.

Responding to allegations that Azerbaijani territory had been used by Israel's Mossad, the Presidential aide said that official Baku regards Iran as a brotherly country.

“Because our brothers live on the other side of the border, across the Araz River. First, the liberation and sovereignty of our territories are fundamental principles for us. Second, Azerbaijan would never allow its territory to be used to interfere in a neighboring country. Third, we have a duty of loyalty there. Those living on the other side of the border, regardless of their nationality or religion, are our brothers, as I said. How could we allow such a thing? Fourth, how would this even be technically possible? How would they get here from Israel? They would have to pass through Türkiye. Neither Türkiye nor Azerbaijan would allow that. How could this have happened? There is also an element of dirty propaganda here,” Hikmat Hajiyev stressed.
