Allied relations between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan have continued to deepen in recent years, accompanied by increasingly frequent high-level exchanges and stronger institutional cooperation.
Over the past five years, President Ilham Aliyev has paid two state visits and four working visits to Uzbekistan, while President Shavkat Mirziyoyev has made two state visits and seven working visits to Azerbaijan.
One of the principal political mechanisms underpinning bilateral relations is the Supreme Interstate Council, established in 2023. Its inaugural meeting was held in Tashkent in 2024, followed by the second meeting in Baku in 2025. Preparations are now underway for the Council’s third meeting.
Cooperation is also gaining momentum at the regional level. The Azerbaijan–Uzbekistan Interregional Forums were held in Tashkent in 2023, Guba in 2024, and Baku in 2025, reflecting the growing scope of direct engagement between the regions of the two countries.
In recent years, relations between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan have progressed beyond strategic partnership towards a more advanced and institutionalised model of allied cooperation.
