Guadeloupe representative: World must condemn France

"France has directly tried to legitimize its colonial policy through its presidents and has never been a state governed by the rule of law," said Guadeloupe representative Luc Reinette during the panel titled "The History and Memory of Colonialism" at the thematic conference "Towards the Decolonization of Guadeloupe! Challenges and Perspectives," organized by the Baku Initiative Group, APA reports.

According to him, it is essential that France, which is trying to reinforce its colonial policy, understands that this is a crime: "The colonial policy that was pursued aimed at turning the subjected peoples into slaves, while reinforcing the policy of slavery for the colonizers. Many African countries have been subjected to this policy. At the time, the French army demanded full obedience from the populations of colonized countries. France, trying to strengthen its colonial policy, must recognize that this is a crime. Various documents have been adopted worldwide in support of our freedom, yet France has tried to remove these documents from the international political agenda. France has only brought misery to Africa. Racist individuals, including former French President Pompidou, constantly sought to keep colonial states and peoples under control. Furthermore, racist rhetoric was openly voiced at the government level in France. All of this shows that our work in the direction of decolonization must be intensified. France has directly tried to give a legal appearance to its colonial policy through its presidents and to strengthen it further. We must work to prevent all of this and acknowledge that France has never been a state governed by the rule of law."

Luc Reinette declared that the international community must condemn France's colonial policy.
