The groundbreaking ceremony for the Kars-Iğdır-Aralık-Dilucu railway line will be held on August 22, said Turkish Minister of Transport and Infrastructure Abdulkadir Uraloğlu, APA reports.
According to the Turkish minister, with the commencement of the Zangezur corridor, the east-west line running from Beijing to London will operate more efficiently.
Uraloğlu said that the line in question will increase Türkiye's logistics capacity and increase its geostrategic importance on trade routes to Asia.
"The Kars-Iğdır-Aralık-Dilucu railway line will be 224 kilometers long, double-track, electrified and equipped with signaling. This line will have a capacity to carry 5.5 million passengers and 15 million tons of freight," the minister said.
He added that the project will include 24 tunnels, 10 bridges, 171 crossings, etc.
