9 May - the 79th anniversary of Victory Day was commemorated at the grave of Azerbaijani Colonel Veli Bey Yadigar, who is considered one of the heroes in the fight against fascism in Poland, the Azerbaijani Embassy in Poland told APA.
During the commemoration ceremony, the staff and leadership of the Azerbaijani Embassy in Poland and the Central European countries' Trade Representation apparatus operating in the country were in attendance. Additionally, Poland's Mufti, Tomasz Miskevicz, participated in the event.
Ambassador Nargiz Gurbanova highlighted the role of the Azerbaijani people in the victory over fascism, emphasizing their heroism and sacrifice on both the frontlines and the rear fronts. It was noted that the Azerbaijani people, who significantly contributed to the glorious Victory, sent over 600 thousand sons and daughters to the frontlines, more than 130 Azerbaijani citizens were honored with the title of Hero of the Soviet Union for their bravery, and over 170 thousand of our soldiers and officers were awarded various orders and medals.
