On April 2, the President of the Federal Republic of Germany, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, and his wife Elke Büdenbender, got acquainted with the Icherisheher, which is listed among the world cultural heritage monuments, APA reports.
The high guest's tour to the Icherisheher started with a visit to the historical architectural monument, the Maiden Tower. The German President was briefed of the history of the construction of the tower's walls.
It was noted that the Maiden Tower, which was founded in the 7th-6th centuries BC, was restored in the 12th century. The monument, which is 28 meters high and has a diameter of 16-16.5 meters, consists of a cylindrical main tower and a large support structure attached to it from the south side.
During the tour, the German President and his wife were also given detailed information about the Icherisheher State Historical and Architectural Reserve, which is included in UNESCO's World Heritage List, as well as the ongoing restoration, improvement, and conservation works there. It was mentioned that rare historical architectural monuments from various centuries are preserved in the Icherisheher area.
Later, the high guest was informed about the Maqsud Ibrahimbayov Creativity Center, which was created in memory of the People's Writer Maqsud Ibrahimbayov.
The German President was also briefed on the Shirvanshahs' Palace Complex, a masterpiece of medieval Eastern architecture and a world-renowned historical and architectural monument.
