Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov received Georgia's newly appointed Ambassador to Azerbaijan Giorgi Zakarashvili, the Foreign Ministry's Press Service told APA.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov congratulated the ambassador on his appointment and wished him success in his diplomatic activities aimed at further developing relations between the two countries.
The meeting emphasized that the traditional friendship and good-neighborly relations between the two countries, as well as the existing high-level ties, play an important role in the development of bilateral cooperation.
During the meeting, the current state and prospects for the development of Azerbaijan-Georgia partnership relations, economic and trade ties, energy security, transport and communication projects, as well as cooperation in defense, security and other areas were discussed. It was emphasized that relations based on mutual trust are of particular importance for the stability and development of the region. The importance of mutual support within international organizations was also noted.
The sides noted the regional and global importance of joint projects implemented in the energy and transport sectors, including the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan pipeline, the Southern Gas Corridor, the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars railway and the Middle Corridor, as well as green energy projects such as the Black Sea submarine electricity cable.
Minister Jeyhun Bayramov provided the ambassador with detailed information about the realities that have emerged in the region in the post-conflict period, the large-scale reconstruction and restoration work being carried out in the liberated territories, as well as the Azerbaijan-Armenia peace and normalization process.
Ambassador Giorgi Zakarashvili expressed his gratitude for the warm reception and emphasized that serving in this position is a great honor and responsibility for him. He said he would spare no effort during his tenure to further expand the strategic partnership between Georgia and Azerbaijan.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
