"Georgia fully supports the normalization process between Azerbaijan and Armenia and, if necessary, may also act as a facilitator in this process," said Nikoloz Samkharadze, Chair of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Georgian Parliament, at the 10th trilateral meeting of the Foreign Relations Committees of the parliaments of Azerbaijan, Türkiye, and Georgia, APA reports.
The Georgian official noted that Azerbaijan, Türkiye, and Georgia have become a transit hub and emphasized that trilateral cooperation is developing in all areas.
Samkharadze said that Abkhazia and South Ossetia remain under Russian occupation and that restoring Georgia’s territorial integrity is a priority issue for the country.
“In our occupied regions, children are unable to receive education in their native language,” he noted.
Samkharadze added that his country condemns the aggression against Ukraine and supports the Ukrainian people.
Speaking about Georgia’s relations with other countries, the official stated that Georgia faces significant pressure due to crises arising from conflicts and that official Tbilisi advocates for resolving problems through peaceful means.
“Some countries and organizations abuse our sincerity. They wanted to push us toward suicide. When we stood against their illegal wishes and demands, they cooperated with violent groups within our country,” he said.
The Georgian parliamentary official also stated that 60% of tourists visiting Georgia come from neighboring countries and emphasized that official Tbilisi attaches great importance to relations with its neighbors.
