Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union Martin Chungong, currently visiting in our country, went to the town of Aghdam on 2 February, APA reports.

The Secretary General was accompanied by MP Javanshir Feyziyev who also co-chairs the EU-Azerbaijan Parliamentary Co-operation Committee, Azerbaijan’s permanent envoy to the UN Office in Geneva and other international organisations Galib Israfilov and other officials.

On arrival in Aghdam the Secretary General was made aware of the atrocities of the Armenian armed forces committed in the town, the destruction of monuments of culture, history and religion and the Azerbaijani State’s work started after the liberation of Aghdam to restore and revitalise it.

The guests were shown round the buildings totally destroyed by the Armenians, including the ruins of the Aghdam Drama Theatre. They also eye-witnessed the Armenian barbarianism at the local Martyrs’ Lane where they were told that the Armenian vandals who had destroyed everything in Aghdam had also wrecked the graves.

Then, Martin Chungong was introduced to the construction work afoot in line with Aghdam’s master plan – including mausoleums and the Garabagh Khans’ residence – the Imarat – and the Friday Mosque of the town. The guest was told that Aghdam which the Armenian invaders had turned to the ‘Hiroshima of the Caucasus’ was going to be wholly restored in a few years to become of the most beautiful towns of the region and to ensure a safe return of the people who had spent 30 years in separation from their Motherland.
