"The principle of self-determination of peoples should not in any way affect the territorial integrity of sovereign states," Monjoin Mohamed, a member of the Democratic Front of the Comoros, at the conference titled "The illegal French occupation of the Union of the Comoros" held in Baku, APA reports.
He recalled that, based on the results of a referendum held in the Comoros, 94% of the population voted in favor of independence: "France, however, preferred to use force to silence the people of the Comoros."
