“I propose that a unified organization be established within the European Union regarding missing persons,” said former Member of Parliament and former Minister at the United Kingdom Foreign Office, Rehman Chishti, during his speech at the international conference on “Uniting efforts and enhancing cooperation for addressing the issue of missing persons,” APA reports.
“If there is a serious human rights violation concerning any individual, why shouldn’t sanctions be imposed? Failure to provide information is also a violation of international law. The resolution of the issue should not end with decisions and conventions,” he said.
Rehman Chishti believes that countries should have special representatives for missing persons: “The search for missing persons is an important step in terms of finding evidence and resolving conflicts. Therefore, societies and communities should take joint action to rectify past wrongdoings and prevent their recurrence in the future. The search and recovery of missing persons is a crucial factor for reconciliation and the resolution of deeper issues.”
