“I am somewhat pessimistic about the future of the UN system, and in the future regional organizations will play a more important role," former President of the European Council Charles Michel told journalists, APA reports.
He stated that under the current conditions there are difficulties for the UN system to be effective and significant: “Because we see that the UN Security Council is effectively in a state of paralysis and is blocked. At the international level, we increasingly see double standards, and this causes a certain erosion of trust and mutual respect. However, what we need is trust and mutual respect. Regional organizations can play a very important role here.”
