On May 21, Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with Ugochi Daniels, Deputy Director General of the International Organization for Migration (IOM), who is visiting the country to participate in the 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13) held in Baku, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs told APA.
Discussions focused on the current state of bilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and IOM, prospects for future joint activities, and issues of mutual interest in the field of migration management.
The parties positively assessed the dynamic development of Azerbaijan’s long-term relations with UN specialized agencies, particularly with the International Organization for Migration.
The importance of joint initiatives aimed at modernizing migration management mechanisms was emphasized.
During the meeting, the other side was provided with detailed information about the large-scale infrastructure projects being implemented in the liberated territories and the economic rehabilitation of the region.
It was noted that the sustainable and phased return of former internally displaced persons to their native lands — one of the government’s key strategic priorities — is being successfully carried out.
Ugochi Daniels highly praised the reforms implemented in Azerbaijan in the field of migration, especially the efforts related to the return of internally displaced persons and the “Great Return” program. She stated that the organization she represents is ready to continue cooperation with Azerbaijan in the migration field and provide the necessary support for relevant projects.
The meeting also included an exchange of views on other issues of mutual interest, as well as the regional situation.
