The European Union (EU) welcomes the latest positive steps in the Azerbaijan-Armenia peace process, including Azerbaijan’s removal of all restrictions on the transit of goods to Armenia, said Magdalena Grono, European Union Special Representative (EUSR) for the South Caucasus and the crisis in Georgia, APA reports.

According to her, the European Union sincerely welcomes these practical developments and is ready to support all such initiatives and additional confidence-building measures.

The Special Representative finds yesterday's meeting between Azerbaijani and Armenian speakers in Geneva, as well as the planned roundtable discussions between Armenian and Azerbaijani civil society experts in Yerevan, encouraging.

“We equally welcome the announced preparations for the next Armenia-Türkiye meeting regarding the restoration and launch of the Gyumri-Kars railway,” the EU official noted.

Note that Azerbaijan has removed all restrictions that had existed since the occupation regarding cargo transit to Armenia.

“I should also note that the first such transit shipment was a consignment of Kazakh grain to Armenia. I believe this is a clear indication that peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia exists not only on paper but also in practice,” said President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev during a joint press statement with President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
