The European Union (EU) continues its support for Armenia.
New tranche from the European Peace Facility (EPF) to Armenia
According to information obtained by APA from private sources, the EU is preparing to allocate a new tranche from the European Peace Facility to Armenia soon to increase its defense capabilities. There is already a preliminary agreement on the allocation of funds.
"There is no doubt that these funds will also be used to arm Armenia," the source told the agency.
It is worth recalling that the European Union has repeatedly issued statements calling for peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia and has been a venue for negotiations. Against the background of these statements, its unilateral arming of Armenia is incomprehensible and raises certain questions.
10 million tranche was allocated to Armenia from the European Peace Facility
Note that in 2024, the EU also allocated a tranche from the European Peace Facility to Armenia. On July 22, the Council of the European Union adopted a decision to provide Armenia with 10 million euros in military assistance within the framework of the "European Peace Facility".
Azerbaijan's reaction
At the time, Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry spokesman Aykhan Hajizadeh called the European Union Council's decision "a wrong and dangerous step that serves to increase tensions in the region."
"The European Union’s decision to send military aid to Armenia is an erroneous and dangerous step that serves to increase tension in the region. Such actions by the European Union are unilateral and biased, and is a manifestation of the policy of creating “dividing lines” in the region.
The aforementioned military aid to Armenia and calls for increasing such support in the future will serve to Armenia’s military buildup and its destructive activities in the region, as a country which had occupied part of the territory of the Republic of Azerbaijan for nearly 30 years, and currently does not give up its claims against our territorial integrity," - Aykhan Hajizadeh underlined.
Azerbaijan at that time noted that it expected transparent disclosure of information about the aid to be provided by the decision of the Council of the European Union .
APA sent a request to the European Union Representation in Azerbaijan and the European Union Central Office on the issue.
