EU High Representative: Our main goal is to isolate Russia and deprive it of war capabilities through energy sanctions

How can the European Union increase pressure on Russia apart from sanctions? We already have sanctions - this is the tool. The 70th package is ready and we are working on the next package of sanctions, the High Representative of the European Union (EU) for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Vice-President of the European Commission, Kaja Kallas told journalists, APA reports.

"Of course, what will really have an impact is the sanctions on energy. And that's why we are also working on the roadmap to get rid of Russian energy that we proposed last week. And we are working on the legislative package also to do so, because to deprive them from the funds of funding this war is extremely, extremely important.," she added.

According to her, the political isolation of Russia is also important in terms of pressure:

"I think also the political isolation is important to put the pressure on Russia and there we all have to be united in this because we clearly see that Russia does not want peace and everybody else does. The proposal from Senator Graham in the U.S. and it is a very good proposal. I think it shows that also Americans are seeing that the pressure should be put on Russia who doesn't want to stop this war. So we are, of course, also seeing what we can do in order to mirror. I think when we are talking to the Americans, they are saying that it's a good chance that this will go through the Senate. Of course, they have their other procedures there. But I think it's important as a message as well that Americans are seeing that this is important to put the pressure on Russia and we have the tools and the Americans also have the tools to do it."

"All parties must act together here, because it is clear that only Russia does not want peace. The proposal put forward by US Senator Graham is also very good and shows that the Americans also understand the importance of putting pressure on Russia to stop this war. Of course, we are considering what steps we can take accordingly. In our negotiations with the Americans, it is also stated that this proposal has a high chance of passing the Senate. Although they have their own procedural rules, this initiative itself sends an important message: both the European Union and the United States understand the importance of putting pressure on Russia and have the necessary tools in this direction. As for the negotiations, the Prime Minister and I will soon visit Armenia. It is important to reduce tensions in the region, and we need to assess what else we can do in this difficult and complex process."
