The South Caucasus can play the role of an important strategic bridge in terms of global connectivity, said Elchin Amirbayov, Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan for Special Assignments, during a panel session held within the framework of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum, APA’s Türkiye bureau reports.
In his opinion, due to past conflicts, the South Caucasus remained outside the focus of international attention for a long time, but currently a unique opportunity has emerged to restore the region’s strategic role.
Thus, strengthening stability in the South Caucasus and engaging international actors in the processes can make a significant contribution to the region’s resilience.
He noted that turning the initiatives and ideas discussed with partners into real results is the main condition for success.
According to Elchin Amirbayov, investment in regional connectivity is not only directed at infrastructure projects, but also at peace, long-term stability, and strengthening resilience.
He emphasized that one of the main risks in this area is geopolitical competition and the differing perceptions of issues by various actors: “Therefore, Azerbaijan strives to ensure that no project is perceived as being directed against the interests of any party. Our approach is based on the ‘win-win’ principle. There are also potential benefits for parties not directly involved in this process, and we hope that more partners will join these initiatives in the future.”
Elchin Amirbayov noted that the results will become clearer over time. He added that the infrastructure projects implemented by Azerbaijan over the past 20 years have mainly been realized through internal resources and cooperation with strategic partners.
