Against the backdrop of the difficult situation in the world and in Europe, the recent developments between Azerbaijan and Armenia are not only encouraging but also a source of pride, According to APA’s correspondent in New York, former Georgian Foreign Minister Eka Tkeshelashvili said this in a statement to Azerbaijani media.
Tkeshelashvili noted that President Ilham Aliyev’s leadership is highly valued around the world.
“If it were not for the wisdom, strategic vision, and determined will of the President of Azerbaijan to resolve the long-standing conflict through peaceful means, the ‘frozen conflict’ in the region might still persist today. But now, there is a prospect of peace and future cooperation for both Azerbaijanis and Armenians. President Ilham Aliyev’s leadership plays a decisive role. This opens the way for an entirely new regional dynamic and closely links the South Caucasus with Central Asia,” she said.
The former foreign minister expressed hope that this process would continue successfully and that future cooperation routes, including the Zangezur corridor, would become reality:
“This will allow for the diversification of transport opportunities and create conditions for economic prosperity that will benefit not only Azerbaijan and Armenia, but also all the peoples of the region, including the Central Asian countries and Caspian littoral states.”
The diplomat also emphasized that some external forces do not want the process to be so positive and independent.
“But the political will and sovereign position demonstrated by Azerbaijan and Armenia will make peace possible. International support is also very important here. Therefore, both the will of the regional countries and international support together can serve as an important ‘shield’ for preserving peace,” she added.
