Department Director: UN is interested in working with NGOs

"The United Nations is interested in working with non-governmental organizations. That is why we have initiated the accreditation process. Currently, 6,500 non-governmental organizations have gone through this process," Wook-Jin Chang, Director of the UN Department of Economic and Social Affairs told journalists, APA reports.

He emphasized that 40 percent of these organizations represent the Global South.

The guest also thanked the Government of Azerbaijan for organizing today’s conference: "First of all, I congratulate the Government of Azerbaijan and the representatives of non-governmental organizations for organizing such a wonderful event and express my gratitude. Organizations representing the Global South are also participating here and discussing very important issues. As the United Nations, we are particularly interested in actively working with non-governmental organizations representing the Global South. The Global South NGO Platform brings together organizations from this region. The United Nations is interested in working with non-governmental organizations, which is why we have initiated the accreditation process. Currently, 6,500 non-governmental organizations have passed through this process. Forty percent of them represent the Global South. I believe that this platform will make a significant contribution to further strengthening cooperation among these organizations."
