Costa: Azerbaijan's role in the region is more important today than ever

Azerbaijan’s role in the region is more important today than ever before, said President of the European Council António Costa during a press statement with President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, APA reports.

“The European Union shares Azerbaijan’s goal of creating a peaceful, stable, interconnected and prosperous South Caucasus. The progress achieved in the peace process with Armenia is of historic importance. The Washington agreements demonstrate your commitment to dialogue and reconciliation, and the European Union supports their full implementation.

We know that real peace is not built only on political agreements signed on paper. As you also noted, peace is built on people’s daily lives, economic relations, trade and shared prosperity. Strengthening economic interdependence is the most reliable path to long-term stability, and the European Union is ready to help ensure that these opportunities are realized for the benefit of all. Azerbaijan’s role in the region is more important today than ever before,” António Costa said.
