The Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Office, Sheikh-ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazadeh, was received by the UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at the organization's Headquarters as part of his visit to the United States, the Caucasus Muslims Office told APA.
It was noted that Sheikh-ul-Islam Pashazadeh is the first religious leader to be received at the UN Headquarters by Antonio Guterres during his nearly 9-year tenure as UN Secretary-General.
The Chairman of the Caucasus Muslims Office (CMO) highlighted that Azerbaijan’s successful model of inter-sectarian understanding is recognized as an example in the Islamic world. He informed the UN Secretary-General that next year, Azerbaijan will host a prestigious event on intra-Islamic dialogue and combating Islamophobia, co-organized by the Muslim Elders Council of Azerbaijan and the UN Alliance of Civilizations, and extended an invitation to Secretary-General António Guterres to attend.
In response, the UN Secretary-General invited the CMO Chairman to participate in the next Global Forum of the UN Alliance of Civilizations, scheduled to be held in Saudi Arabia this December.
