A delegation from the Senate of the National Congress of the Republic of Chile visited the cities of Shusha and Khankendi on September 27 as part of their visit to Azerbaijan, the Press and Public Relations Department of the Milli Majlis told APA.

The senators arriving in Khankendi observed a one-minute silence at 12:00 to honor the cherished memory of Azerbaijani martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the homeland.

Employees of the Shusha City State Reserve Department welcomed the Chilean parliamentarians came to Shusha from there, at the City Square.

The acquaintance with Shusha began at the City Square. The senators were informed about the shooting of the statues of Azerbaijan’s prominent cultural figures Khurshidbanu Natavan, Bulbul, and Uzeyir Hajibeyli by Armenians during the occupation period.

Next, the guests visited the Upper Govharaga Mosque, admired the Shusha Fortress Walls, paid a visit to Isa Spring, and ascended to Jidir Duzu.

The guests arriving at Jidir Duzu were informed about its historical significance and how, during the 44-day Patriotic War, heroic Azerbaijani soldiers climbed the steep cliffs of this area, sacrificing their lives and blood to liberate Shusha from occupation.

It was noted that today Jidir Duzu has once again become a venue for magnificent events, just as it was before the occupation.

As part of their visits to Azerbaijan’s liberated territories, the Chilean senators came to Khankendi city after Shusha.

The senators were welcomed here by the staff of the Khankendi City Restoration-Construction-Management Service. The guests toured Victory Square in Khankendi and inspected the large-scale reconstruction works carried out by the Azerbaijani government in the city.

It was noted that life is returning to normal in the territories of Azerbaijan liberated from occupation. As residential areas are built and restored, former internally displaced persons are being returned to their homeland. To date, more than 50,000 former IDPs have returned to their native lands, where they live, work, and study.

The senators spoke with mothers of martyrs here.

The guests gave interviews to media representatives accompanying them.
