“The international system built on the United Nations system appears less effective than before. This is due to weakness in the implementation of decisions and new difficulties in carrying out the necessary reforms. This is a reality that we can all observe today.

That is why such a forum and such an organization create a great opportunity to improve mutual understanding under the current circumstances. Thanks to this format, 350 personalities from different fields, with diverse experience and knowledge, come together. They sit together, listen to each other, and try to develop mutual understanding. This is the starting point for making the best decisions and building a more just and predictable world.

In conclusion, the final point I would like to emphasize at this stage is that if we are committed to doing our part as part of the international community, we must ask ourselves three questions and reflect on the possible answers.

First, what do we want to do together as the international community? What do we want to achieve together? We face many challenges, such as climate change, economic development, and global security. How do we want to work together? Do we want to cooperate or not?

Second, how do we make decisions together? This relates to the issue of international governance. Much can be said about the multilateral system, particularly the United Nations.

Third, how do we finance what we do together? How can we ensure greater justice at the international level?

I believe that today and in the coming days, we will have the opportunity to exchange in-depth views on all these topics. I hope these discussions will help us better understand the challenges we face and create more hope and optimism for the future,” Charles Michel said.
