"The relations between Iran and Azerbaijan are comprehensive and multifaceted, based on strong emotional foundations and strategic interests," Seyed Jafar Aghaei Maryan, the Chargé d'Affaires of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Azerbaijan, said in an interview with APA.

The base that forms the basis of Iran-Azerbaijan relations has a special quality; it is durable and unbreakable, which is why it does not easily break in the face of fluctuating conditions and changes. In other words, our relations are rooted in a long history, stemming from deep and rich cultural, religious, and familial ties. Iran and Azerbaijan have such strong relations, and multifaceted ties, and these relations are so pleasant and comprehensive that they can easily solve any issue and problem within themselves, remove the damage and can continue on their way. The point that remains overlooked by the adversaries and disruptors of Iran-Azerbaijan relations is that they fall into the trap of great miscalculations.

Regarding economic relations, the diplomat stated that Iran and Azerbaijan have common and strategic interests within the framework of the North-South Transport Corridor, with both countries carrying out various projects to strengthen transportation and transit infrastructure in the North-South direction.

He noted that the new bridge over the Astara River, built as part of the joint cooperation, has already started minimal operation: "On the Iranian side, we are working to complete the infrastructure at the border-crossing point so that this project can be fully operational soon. In this regard, the construction of a railway terminal in the Iranian city of Astara, funded by the Republic of Azerbaijan, is also of great importance."

He also mentioned that another important project is the Agband-Kalala railway and highway project to Nakhchivan, which is on the agenda of both countries. He stated that the construction of a road bridge over the Araz River has already begun, and road construction is continuing on both sides.

The diplomat added that positive and effective steps have also been taken in the defense sector. Joint military exercises with the participation of both countries’ armed forces in the Caspian Sea and along border regions are part of this effective and promising cooperation.

He also stated that the restoration of the territorial integrity of the Republic of Azerbaijan and the peace negotiation process with Armenia has created a better environment for the development of economic relations among regional countries. He emphasized that Iran has always shown sensitivity to Azerbaijan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

"Naturally, the establishment of lasting peace in the region can open new areas and opportunities for increasingly multifaceted cooperation between Iran and Azerbaijan."

Regarding the COP29 conference held in Baku, the Iranian diplomat stated that he considers this session a successful event and expressed his happiness that they were able to contribute to facilitating and accelerating the transport of necessary equipment to Azerbaijan via Iran for the event, sharing in this success.
