“Although I arrived in Azerbaijan only four weeks ago, my first visit to Baku dates back to 1999. The development path the country has taken since then is truly incredible,” British Ambassador Duncan Norman said at an event in Baku marking the birthday of King Charles III, APA reports.
He stated that today’s Azerbaijan is a dynamic, modern country with close ties to the global community.
“Azerbaijan is currently experiencing a truly important period of opportunity. For the first time in a generation, there is a real opportunity to establish lasting peace in the South Caucasus. Peace will pave the way for expanded trade, investment, and connectivity opportunities across the region. The key challenge ahead is to ensure that peace becomes irreversible.
However, throughout all the changes I have witnessed, one thing has remained unchanged: the warmth and hospitality of the Azerbaijani people.
I have the honor of continuing the cooperation between the United Kingdom and Azerbaijan, which has developed over more than three decades and has now reached the level of a Strategic Partnership,” he said.
The diplomat noted that relations began in the energy sector.
“BP’s pioneering investment contributed to shaping the history of Azerbaijan’s modern economic development, and we continue to build on this cooperation.
Our partnership is not limited to energy. Our defense relations are currently at the strongest period in their history.
We work closely together in combating cross-border illicit goods smuggling.
British companies are actively involved in sectors such as aviation, infrastructure, finance, and artificial intelligence.
We are proud of our support for mine clearance activities in Karabakh, through which we contribute to the reconstruction and recovery of communities.
In addition to security and economic cooperation, our ties continue to grow stronger,” he added.
