The Baku Initiative Group (BIG) has always prioritized dialogue and peaceful resolution of issues since its establishment, said BIG’s Executive Director, Abbas Abbasov in a letter to France’s Minister for Overseas Territories, Manuel Valls, APA reports.

In his letter, Abbasov praised Valls’ visit to Kanaky, emphasizing its importance in understanding the situation on the ground and listening to the demands of the Kanak people.

"No process can be indefinite, and you likely agree that negotiations should be outcome-oriented. In this context, the French government's failure to fulfill its commitments since 1946, especially since the signing of the Matignon agreement in 1988, deeply concerns the Baku Initiative Group, an international NGO working in decolonization, regarding the Kanak people."

The head of the BIG has stated that the group has proposed a neutral mediation initiative in the negotiations between the French government and Kanaki in order to bring a new breath and contribution to the discussions:

"Considering the overwhelming trust of the Kanak people in our organization, as well as our international experience in the field of decolonization, we hope you will respond positively to our proposal. You can be assured that our organization, which operates based on the norms and principles of international law, will offer a balanced and fair approach in the negotiations, supporting the development of mutual understanding and cooperation between the parties.'"
